What to expect during your first appointment
Your first visit usually consists of four parts: an intake, a physical examination, discussing a treatment plan, and often a first treatment. We work calmly and carefully, so nothing is overlooked.
1. Intake: mapping your symptoms
The intake actually starts at home. After you make an appointment, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a request to complete a questionnaire, so your practitioner can prepare thoroughly.
During your first appointment, we begin with a conversation. We’ll ask about your symptoms, when they started, what makes them worse or better, and what your goal is. We also discuss your medical history and any previous treatments.
Have you had tests or reports (for example from your GP, a specialist, or a physiotherapist)? Feel free to bring them along. It helps us build a complete picture more quickly.
2. Physical examination
Next, we perform a physical examination. This may include assessing posture and movement, testing joints and muscles, and – if relevant – a neurological screening.
We don’t only look at where your symptoms show up, but also at possible underlying causes that may be keeping the problem in place.
3. Your treatment plan
After the examination, we explain what we found and what the most logical next step is. You’ll receive a personal treatment plan, tailored to your symptoms, capacity, and goals.
We keep it practical:
- What is the likely cause of your symptoms?
- What can we treat, and how?
- What can you do on your own to support your recovery?
- When will we assess whether the treatment is working?
4. A first treatment
Do we start treatment right away? Usually yes – though it depends on your situation. In many cases, we can begin a first treatment immediately after the initial examination. In some situations, it’s better to first do additional diagnostics or choose a different route.
