Dry needling

What is it exactly? What is the difference with acupuncture and what does it treat?

At Chiropractie Leiden, chiropractor Justin Petzer uses this therapy to compliment his chiropractic treatment of pain and movement impairments.

The technique uses a ‘dry’ needle, one without medication or injection, that gets inserted through the skin into an area of the muscle.

Dry needling has become part of modern Western medicine principles, and is supported by research (1).

We use complimentary dry needling with the intent of releasing or inactivating ‘trigger points’, relieving pain and impoving your range of motion. Preliminary research supports that dry needling can improve pain control and reduce the tension of muscles, helping dysfunctions of the transmitions of nerve impulses to muscles. This usually contributes to speed up the patient’s return to active rehabilitation.
